SUPPER AT SEA - KATIE HAGEN
Artist Biography

Katie Hagen is a Savannah-based fiber artist and graphic designer. She creates joyful installations that bring necessary delight into our often-boring spaces. Using color, light, and movement to mimic the sensory-rich natural world in which humans evolved, she evokes our universal joy response to the aesthetics that have long helped humans flourish.
Katie pairs innovative applications of traditional textile processes – weaving, knotting, basketry, natural dyeing, and fabric manipulation – with digital fabrication methods. Inspired by dynamic skies, undulating landscapes, and organic forms, she renders their gradients, wavy lines, and curious shapes with natural and industrial materials.
Katie has created commissions for the SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum in Savannah, and Wing Haven Gardens in Charlotte, NC. Her work has been exhibited at the Jepson Center’s Pulse Festival and is part of the SCAD permanent collection. Her solo M.F.A. thesis show, Delight: Enlivening Space and Surface with Color, Light and Movement, was on view at Gallery 2424 in Savannah, Ga., in November 2023. She teaches at the Telfair Museum in Savannah, Ga., and has over a decade of graphic design experience with Target, Gap Inc., and Old Navy, bringing communications, marketing, and events to life.
Katie received an M.F.A. in Fibers and an M.A. in Production Design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2023. She previously studied graphic design at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. See her work at katiehagencreative.com
