SUPPER AT SEA - TRICIA COOKSON
Artist Biography

Tricia Cookson is a Savannah based artist who draws inspiration from familiar surroundings and daily routine. Exploring the effects of densely scheduled activities and over-stimulation in contemporary life, her work addresses notions of physical and mental tension. Rhythm, repetition, and ritual inform her process.
Employing chance elements and time-based procedures, Cookson creates pieces that serve as documents of meditative episodes – artifacts of the opposing forces of intense focus and interruptive distraction. She brings order to chaos and chaos to order. An intuitive and playful approach to transforming typical American household materials yields new objects that are tactile, architectural, and sculptural.
She holds an MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and works full time as an art teacher at St. Vincent’s Academy. Cookson’s work is on permanent collection at the SCAD Museum of Art, and has exhibited in solo and group shows at the Jepson Center.
